This is Starrett City's maintenance office. While you can come down here to schedule for a repair or a paint job, it is more convenient to just call them over the phone. If you need some fluorescent light bulbs or a new toilet seat, you can get them at the nearest parking garage since they each house an utility room.
Each section in Starrett has its own parking garage which requires a monthly fee if you choose to park inside. Long time ago, people who did not pay the monthly fee would sneak their cars into the garage for parking. That is when Starrett began installing toll-booth structures at the front of each garage that you see in the picture. A person will check to see if you have the appropriate sticker on your car for entering. The inside of the parking garages are not kept in very good condition. There are big potholes inside many of them that have yet to be filled.
Formerly called the Community Center, the Brooklyn Sports Club made huge renovations long time ago and turned the entire 2nd floor into a weight and cardio room in what used to be a lounge area with ping pong tables. The centerpiece of the Brooklyn Sports Club is still the big swimming pool inside. There is also an indoor basketball court, locker rooms, steam and sauna rooms. Starrett City residents get a discount membership.
Also something that definitely needs mentioning, is the famous Starrett City Boxing Club. Many terrific boxers has come through there. It is located at 1506 Hornell Loop (that is under the parking garage).
