Starrett City has a small strip mall located at the center of Starrett, right next to the elementary school. The mall isn't big, but you can usually find what you need there.
Here are the shops as seen in the picture, from left to right:
Over the years, different shops have come and gone. Before there was a Blockbuster, there was a McCory's. Before there was a Golden Krust, there was a Fish store that sold fish and seafood. Other notable businesses that closed up shop here was a bakery and Carvel Ice Cream.
You might notice that some of the businesses have faded red letters at the front of their stores like the Pizza place. Those are the businesses that has been with Starrett for the longest.
The Pizza place in Starrett City makes very good cheese pizza. It is recommended you stop by there for lunch. In the past, they had a special where you can get a small soda and a slice for a buck. Now you will have to fork over two dollars for a pizza. The rise in inflation has not been good to food prices in general.
This is the supermarket located on the other end of the same stripmall. It used to be a Walbalms and the spot was taken over by another supermarket before it became Associated Food. They have good deals now and then. Definitely better overall prices than the Pathmark that's several blocks away.
And right next to the supermarket is a Radioshack. There are recycling machines in between the two stores.
